The first week of the 2016 Virginia Youth Trapshooting League is complete, with 56 youth participating throughout the state. The Week 1 turnout was nearly double the number we saw in 2015 (32) and we expect it to grow from here. Another positive sign is we saw several Junior Gold shooters register scores this season – there were zero Junior Gold shooters in 2015.
New clubs/teams this year include Alexandria IWLA (Stafford Clay Shooters), Northern Virginia Gun Club, Arrowhead, and Stonewall. Returning from 2015 are Appomattox, IWLA Arlington-Fairfax, IWLA- Lynchburg (Flight Control), and Winchester Gun Club (Frederick County 4-H).
Overall High Guns were Levi Bolan 49, Kendall Rhodes 48, and Mason Angel 47.
The Week 1 High Guns in each category are as follows:
Junior Gold: Steven Keating 42 (Frederick County 4-H), Trevor Goin 41 (Appomattox) and Dylan Wood 35 (Flight Control).
Junior: Kendall Rhodes 48 (Northern VA), Josh Anthony 44 (Appomattox), and 4 shooters tied with 43: Robert Judy (Frederick County 4-H), Morgan Strickler (Frederick County 4-H), Eric Swahn (IWLA Arlington-Fairfax), and Joseph Keppler (Stafford Clay Shooters).
Sub-Junior: Levi Bolan 49 (Arrowhead), Mason Angel 47 (Stonewall), Camden Newlin 44 (Independent) and Hunter Shoemaker 44 (Frederick County 4-H).
Pre-Sub Junior: Ryan Marsh 36 (Flight Control), Dannie Wilson 36 (Frederick County 4-H) and Connor Morris 34 (Flight Control). *To settle the tie, we had to use the reverse score with Ryan shooting an 18 and Dannie a 17.
